I’m going to assume you are a Human, though lets face it, today you could be a computer program #amiarobot lol!
So Congrats you have Mastered Level 1 & 2 of consciousness but are you a Level 3er….
Don’t worry if you’re not, you’re made it this far so you’re 2/3’s of the way there!
Let me give a dictionary description of Consciousness & then a bit more of my own interpretation.
“the state of being aware of and responsive to one’s surroundings”.
synonyms: awareness, wakefulness, alertness, responsiveness
“a person’s awareness or perception of something”
synonyms: awareness of, knowledge of the existence of, alertness to, sensitivity to, realisation of, cognisance of, mindfulness of, perception of, apprehension of, recognition of
This being said ‘Consciousness’ in our current English language has 3 different levels of meaning.
Briefly here they are:
1. Being Awake. This level of Consciousness can relate to any person or animal that can respond & interact with its environment.
2. Thinking the way a Human does in a more advanced way then animals. With language, emotion, advanced problem solving & sensory experiences.
3. Being aware of Yourself & your Thoughts. This is the Higher level of Consciousness and the one we here at ‘Beyond the Butterfly’ are speaking about in depth.
This third level of Consciousness or Awareness
occurs when you stop thinking about anything specific. For a moment you look inward. It is often first experienced in moments of spectacular awe or beauty, like seeing snow for the first time. Or under great stress or trauma when the thinking mind is overwhelmed & temporarily shuts down.
What do you see, hear or feel when this happens? Perhaps you become aware of yourself as more then your thoughts, your sense of identity may briefly fall away, your roles, your past, even your sense of a fixed physical body. It is accompanied by a deep sense of inner peace & connection. This is a taste of what I mean by the third level of consciousness.
Usually this is experienced as a brief phenomena that we don’t quite know what happened, how it happened or how to replicate the experience.
Normal thought of Level 2. Consciousness quickly returns, the mind kicks in & again you become distracted by some recurring thought (such as hunger, or the next thing you have to do or the last conversation you had).
You have however briefly, experienced the sensation of thinking about thinking. This is the beginning Journey of Higher Consciousness & an opportunity to learn & practice how to tap into this level of Consciousness as a way of Living & Being in the world.
